Some friends of mine recently started a new tradition. Once a month they meet on a Monday night to start off the new week with a bonfire at the beach. While experimenting with food, having great conversations and almost too much laughter (if possible), they look at the new week as yet another opportunity to enjoy life. I simply feel encouraged and happy to be able come along.

The conversations tend to be about food and what to make on a bonfire. Last month it was brownies cooked inside oranges, this month; waffles! After a few failed ones, we finally got it going.

Ingredients

8 waffles

  • 400 grams all-purpose flour 
  • 5 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 400 milliliters milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 100 grams melted butter

 

  1. Melt the butter and set aside to cool a bit.
  2. Mix all the dry ingredients together, add the milk. Beat until you have a smooth batter. Add the eggs and melted butter. Leave for 20-30 minutes (give it a stir before using).

Serve with jam of your liking and sour cream.  (Norwegians love sliced brown cheese on the warm waffles!)

Norwegian: 

Noen venner av meg startet nylig en ny tradisjon. En gang i måneden møtes de for å starte uka med skikkelig bålkos på en strand i området. Praten og latteren går i ett, og det eksperimenteres mye med maten. De ser på starten av uken som en ny sjanse. En ny mulighet til å skape en god uke for både seg selv og andre. 

Samtalene ender ofte med stort fokus på mat. I forrige måned ble det laget sjokoladekake kokt i appelsiner på bålet, denne gangen var det vafler. Hva blir neste? Har du noen gode forslag? 

INGREDIENSER

8 vaffler

  • 4 dl hvetemel
  • 5 ss sukker
  • 1 ts bakepulver
  • 1 ts malt kardemomme
  • 4 dl melk
  • 5 stk egg
  • 100 g smeltet smør

Ha alt det tørre i en bolle og spe med litt av melken om gangen. Rør godt mellom hver gang for å unngå klumper. Rør inn eggene og tilsett smeltet smør. La røren stå og svelle 1/2 time.

Stek vaflene og server dem gjerne varme med syltetøy og rømme.  (For oss nordmenn er det jo også helt nydelig med brunost!)
