Being based in Uganda, Karen and I took the local bus overnight from Kampala reaching Kigali in the early morning hours. As I slowly started waking up from my bumpy sleep on the bus, the land of the thousand hills was already beaming in the morning sun with its tea plantations along the road coming to life. I was amazed. The country was everything and more than I had expected. With Karen fast asleep next to me, I was suddenly wide awake with excitement.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have many hours in Kigali before heading on to the next country. However, we did manage to get some great food. Our lunch options went quickly from savoury to sweet, and we ended up at the New Cactus with its proper view over the city. Certainly not a bad option!
